About the course

SEATS is CITB's one-day environmental course for people who supervise or manage construction work. It explains the environmental law that applies on site and the practical steps that keep a job compliant and a good neighbour.

The day covers environmental management systems; waste, including classifying, segregating and disposing of it and the paperwork for waste transfers; preventing pollution of watercourses and controlling water use; energy and resources; contamination on brownfield sites; protecting wildlife and habitats; statutory nuisance such as noise and dust; archaeology and heritage; and responsibly sourced timber. Contaminated land matters across South Yorkshire, where a lot of development is on former industrial and mining land.

SEATS runs in our classroom at Bradmarsh Business Park, Rotherham, and live online with a tutor. Pass the trainer review and end-of-course exam and CITB issues a certificate valid for five years. There's no refresher, so you retake the course to renew.

Who it's for

Site supervisors, foremen and managers in building, construction and civil engineering.

Questions about the SEATS

Something else? Call 07939 593032.

Who needs SEATS?

Supervisors and managers who are responsible for environmental matters on site, such as waste, pollution prevention and nuisance to neighbours. It's also useful where a client or contractor asks supervisors to show environmental training.

Is there a SEATS refresher?

No. The certificate is valid for five years; to stay certificated, take the one-day course again before it expires.

How is SEATS assessed?

By a trainer review and a 30-minute exam of 25 questions set by CITB: 22 multiple choice and 3 with more than one answer. You can use the SEATS environment book for the last 10 minutes.

Can I take SEATS online?

Yes. It runs live online with a tutor on fixed dates, as well as in our Rotherham classroom. You need a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and microphone, a reliable connection and a quiet space for the whole course; a phone isn't suitable.
