About the course

Under BS 5975, a Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) supports the Temporary Works Coordinator by supervising particular temporary works on site, such as propping, formwork or excavation support. This CITB course explains that role and how it fits into the wider temporary works process.

In one day you cover the need for and duties of a TWS, the other roles involved, how BS 5975 applies to the role, typical temporary works documents, the legislation and guidance that affect temporary works, risk management and the four Cs. It's a process course rather than a technical one: CITB is clear that the certificate supports, but doesn't by itself confer, competence as a TWS.

The course runs in our classroom at Bradmarsh Business Park, Rotherham, and live online with a tutor. Pass and CITB issues a certificate valid for five years. There's no refresher, so you retake the course to renew. If you'll be coordinating temporary works across a site, take the two-day Temporary Works Coordinator course instead.

Who it's for

Supervisors, foremen, section engineers and trades who supervise temporary works such as propping, formwork, falsework or excavation support.
There are no formal entry requirements, though site experience helps.
