First aid and wellbeing

Every employer must make adequate first aid arrangements, and the right level depends on your workplace. HSE asks employers to assess their first aid needs. A lower-risk office may only need people with Emergency First Aid at Work, while higher-risk workplaces, such as construction sites and workshops, may need first aiders trained on the full First Aid at Work course.

Workplace first aid certificates last three years. Before a First Aid at Work certificate runs out, your first aider can take the requalification course rather than starting again. HSE also strongly recommends annual refresher training to keep skills sharp in between.

Mental Health First Aid trains people to spot the signs of mental ill health, start a supportive conversation and point a colleague towards help. It runs live online with a tutor. For practical first aid, or to train a group, we can arrange in-house courses at your site in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley or Chesterfield.

Do we need Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work?

It depends on your first aid needs assessment, which HSE expects every employer to carry out. Emergency First Aid at Work covers the essentials for lower-risk workplaces. First Aid at Work goes further, covering a wider range of injuries and illnesses, and suits higher-risk work or larger teams.

How long do first aid certificates last?

Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work certificates last three years. Once a certificate has expired, HSE no longer counts that person as a workplace first aider, so book the requalification before the expiry date.

Is Mental Health First Aid the same as first aid?

No. Mental Health First Aid doesn't cover physical injuries, and it doesn't replace your first aiders. It trains people to recognise mental ill health, listen without judgement and guide someone towards professional help. Many sites have both.

Can you train our team at our site?

Yes. We can arrange first aid and Mental Health First Aid courses in-house for groups at your premises across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. Tell us how many people and where.
