NEBOSH

NEBOSH certificates are well known to employers in every sector. They're the qualifications people take when health and safety becomes a real part of their job, or when they want to move into a health and safety role. NEBOSH sets and marks the assessments, so the certificate means the same thing wherever you work.

The NEBOSH National General Certificate suits any workplace: manufacturing, warehousing, offices, councils and construction. NEBOSH's construction certificate, now called Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK), applies the same management principles to building sites, with CDM 2015, work at height, excavations and demolition. Holders can use it to apply for the CSCS Academically Qualified Person card.

You can study either way. Our tutor-led courses run live online on set dates, so you can join from home or work in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley or Chesterfield without travelling. If you'd rather fit study around shifts, the same certificates are available by distance learning: start on any day and work at your own pace.

Guides

  • IOSH Managing Safely or Working Safely?

IOSH Managing Safely is a three-day course for managers and team leaders; Working Safely is a one-day course for everyone else. Here's how to choose, what each covers, and how employers train a whole team.

  • How live online CITB courses work

Live online courses are taught in real time by a tutor, with the same content and certificate as the classroom. Here's what to expect on the day and what you'll need.

  • NEBOSH General or NEBOSH Construction Certificate?

Both are well-known NEBOSH certificates, but one is built for any workplace and the other for construction. Here's how to choose, how each is assessed, and whether to study live online or by distance learning.

Distance learning

Prefer to study from home?

These are our own self-study courses, a different product from the tutor-led courses above. There's no class and no course date to book: you enrol any day and work through the material online, at your own pace, around shifts and site work.

Which NEBOSH certificate should I take?

If you work on construction sites, or manage people who do, take the construction certificate: it's built around CDM 2015 and site hazards, and it can support a CSCS Academically Qualified Person card application. For any other workplace, such as a factory, warehouse, office or council, take the National General Certificate. Both cover the same management principles; the difference is the hazards and examples.

Should I take NEBOSH or IOSH Managing Safely?

IOSH Managing Safely is a short course for line managers who need to understand their responsibilities. A NEBOSH certificate is a longer qualification with assessments set and marked by NEBOSH. It suits people for whom health and safety is a large part of the job, or who want to become a health and safety adviser. If you're not sure, look at what job adverts in your sector ask for.

Do you run NEBOSH courses in Sheffield?

Our tutor-led NEBOSH courses run live online, so you can take part from anywhere in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley or Chesterfield with no travel. Each date shows how and where it runs, so check before you book: any classroom dates are elsewhere in the country, not in South Yorkshire. For a group from one employer, ask us about running the course in-house.

Does a NEBOSH certificate expire?

No. NEBOSH certificates have no expiry date. Employers and professional bodies will still expect you to keep your knowledge up to date as the law and good practice change.

Live online or distance learning: which is better?

Choose live online if you learn best with a tutor and a group, and you can set aside the course days. Choose distance learning if your shifts or site commitments make fixed dates difficult. Both lead to the same NEBOSH certificate and the same NEBOSH assessments.
