Utilities and water

Utility companies and their contractors expect people on their networks to hold the right EUSR registration before they start work. EUSR (the Energy & Utility Skills Register) sets the standards and keeps the register: you're added to it once you pass an EUSR course and assessment.

EUSR National Water Hygiene is for anyone working on clean water sites or the clean water network. It covers how drinking water becomes contaminated and how to prevent it. SHEA Power and SHEA Telecom are safety, health and environmental awareness courses for operational sites in those sectors, and a valid SHEA registration is needed for an EUSR CSCS card. The Category 1 and 2 courses cover locating buried services and excavating safely around them, in line with HSE guidance HSG47.

Water Hygiene runs live online with a tutor on set dates, so operatives in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley can take it without travelling. For the other EUSR courses, or to train a group, contact us about the next dates or in-house training.

Who needs an EUSR Water Hygiene card?

Anyone who works on clean water sites or on the clean water network, such as mains laying, repairs, connections and work inside treatment and storage sites. Water companies and their contractors check for it before you start.

How long does an EUSR registration last?

National Water Hygiene, SHEA Power, SHEA Telecom and the Category 1 and 2 registrations last three years. SHEA Gas lasts five years. To renew, you take the course and assessment again before your registration runs out.

Is there a health check for Water Hygiene?

Yes. Everyone completes a health screening questionnaire before the training. If you've had certain illnesses in the last 12 months, such as typhoid, dysentery, hepatitis A or persistent diarrhoea and vomiting, you'll need written confirmation from a doctor that you're clear before you can be registered.
