About the course

The SSSTS Refresher is for supervisors who already hold an in-date SSSTS certificate. Pass it and you get a new certificate valid for another five years, without repeating the two-day course.

The day concentrates on what has changed and on the decisions supervisors face: how health and safety law fits together, the difference between a supervisor's and a manager's role, method statements, welfare, communication and behavioural safety, and supervising occupational health. CITB's current refresher also works through CDM 2015, drugs and alcohol and environmental awareness in interactive scenarios, so bring examples from your own job.

CITB only accepts an in-date certificate for the refresher. If yours has expired, you need the full two-day SSSTS instead, so book ahead of your expiry date.

The refresher runs in our classroom at Bradmarsh Business Park, Rotherham, and live online with a tutor.

SSSTS Refresher (SSSTS-R) runs in the classroom at our training venue in Rotherham: 10 upcoming dates at Rotherham (Bradmarsh Business Park), about 20 minutes from Sheffield city centre outside rush hour. If travelling doesn't suit, the live online dates are taught by a tutor in real time.

How long does an SSSTS certificate last?

Five years. To keep it, pass the one-day refresher before it expires. The expiry date is on your certificate, and CITB's online card checker shows it too.

Can I take the refresher if my SSSTS has expired?

No. CITB only accepts an in-date certificate for the refresher. Once it has expired you need the full two-day SSSTS again.

Is the online refresher the same as the classroom one?

It's the same CITB course and certificate, taught live by a tutor on a fixed date, with the exam taken online at the end. You need a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and microphone, a reliable connection and a quiet space for the whole course; a phone isn't suitable.

Can you refresh a whole team at once?

Yes. If several supervisors are due at about the same time, we can run the refresher in-house at your site or office. CITB sets minimum and maximum group sizes, so tell us how many people and their expiry dates and we'll suggest dates.
