About the course

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) trains people to give immediate help to someone who is injured or taken ill at work. It suits lower-risk workplaces and teams where your first aid needs assessment calls for emergency first aiders rather than the full First Aid at Work course.

It covers the role of the first aider, assessing an incident, CPR and dealing with an unresponsive casualty, choking, wounds and bleeding, shock, and minor injuries such as burns and scalds. Most of the day is hands-on practice.

Contact us for the next dates, or to arrange the course in-house for a group at your site in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley or Chesterfield.

The certificate lasts three years. HSE strongly recommends a short annual refresher to keep skills fresh.

Who it's for

Questions about the EFAW

Is EFAW enough for our workplace?

It depends on your first aid needs assessment. EFAW suits many lower-risk workplaces. Higher-risk work, such as construction, or larger teams may need first aiders trained on the full First Aid at Work course.

How long does the EFAW certificate last?

Three years. After it expires, HSE no longer counts that person as a workplace first aider, so rebook before the expiry date.
