If the trip doesn't suit, many courses are taught live online by a tutor on fixed dates, or we can run a course for your team at your own site in Sheffield. NVQs are assessed on the job you already do, so they involve no classroom days at all.

Courses that suit Sheffield sites

Sheffield city centre has seen a long run of regeneration. The council's Heart of the City scheme, with its development partner Queensberry, turned the old fire station site into Pound's Park and brought the Cambridge Street Collective food hall. The £300m West Bar scheme added offices and build-to-rent flats, with Bowmer & Kirkland building the first phase. Tight city-centre plots like these, with the public on every side, put real weight on supervision, site logistics and temporary works.

  • Running the site: the five-day CITB SMSTS is the course principal contractors usually ask site managers for, and the two-day SMSTS Refresher renews it.
  • Supervising a trade or a section: the two-day SSSTS.
  • Propping, formwork, excavations and scaffolds: the Temporary Works Coordinator course for the person who manages the temporary works process on site, and Temporary Works Supervisor for the people who look after it day to day.

NEBOSH and IOSH for Sheffield employers

Plenty of Sheffield employers aren't contractors at all. For managers in manufacturing, education, healthcare, retail and the public sector, the NEBOSH National General Certificate and IOSH Managing Safely are the cross-sector choices. Both are taught live online with a tutor on fixed dates. If you'd rather study at your own pace, the NEBOSH General Certificate is also available by distance learning.

NVQs for site managers and supervisors

An NVQ is assessed on the work you already do on your Sheffield site, with an assessor guiding you through an online portfolio. The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management is the usual choice for site managers working towards the Black Manager card, and the Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision is a route to the Gold Supervisor card. Is the training venue in Sheffield?

No. Our classroom courses for the Sheffield area run at Bradmarsh Business Park in Rotherham (S60 1BY), off the A6178 Sheffield Road. It's about 20 minutes from Sheffield city centre outside rush hour, and the tram-train from the city centre stops at Rotherham Central, about 1.2 miles from the venue.

Can I do SMSTS or SSSTS without travelling?

Yes. Both are also taught live online by a tutor on fixed dates, so you can join from home or the site office. You follow the same CITB course, and the certificate is issued by CITB, as it is for the classroom course.

Do you run NEBOSH and IOSH courses for Sheffield?

Yes, live online with a tutor, so you can join from anywhere in the city. The NEBOSH General and Construction Certificates are also available by distance learning if you'd rather study at your own pace. For a group, IOSH courses can be run in-house at your premises.

Can you train our team at our Sheffield site?
