IOSH

IOSH courses are short and practical. They use plain language and everyday examples, so they work for people in any sector, from construction and manufacturing to warehousing, facilities and the public sector. No previous safety training is needed.

IOSH Managing Safely is for line managers, supervisors and team leaders. It covers assessing and controlling risk, legal responsibilities, common hazards, investigating incidents and measuring performance. IOSH Working Safely is for staff at any level who need a grounding in health and safety: what hazards and risks are, how to spot them and how to help improve safety at work.

Both courses run live online with a tutor on set dates, so people can join from home or work in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley or Chesterfield. If you have a team to train, we can run either course in-house at your premises across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.

Managing Safely or Working Safely: which do I need?

Managing Safely is for people who manage or supervise others and are responsible for how their team works. Working Safely is for everyone else: operatives, office staff and new starters who need to understand hazards and their own part in staying safe. Many employers put managers on the first and their teams on the second.

Is IOSH the same as NEBOSH?

No. IOSH Managing Safely and Working Safely are short certificated courses. NEBOSH certificates are longer qualifications with assessments set and marked by NEBOSH, aimed at people for whom health and safety is a large part of the job. A manager who needs to understand their responsibilities usually starts with IOSH Managing Safely.

Can you run IOSH courses at our premises?

Yes. For a group from one employer we can run IOSH Managing Safely or Working Safely in-house at your site in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, Chesterfield or elsewhere in the area. Tell us how many people and where, and we'll talk you through the options.

Do IOSH certificates expire?

The certificates have no expiry date. IOSH recommends the one-day Managing Safely Refresher to keep managers up to date with good practice and changes in the law.
