About the course

This Level 2 Diploma recognises the work of people supporting pipework installation in construction: preparing materials, handling and positioning components, and helping fitters install them safely.

Your evidence comes from the work you're doing now, from Doncaster and Barnsley to Chesterfield. That usually means photos of installations you've worked on, the drawings and job sheets you followed, and witness statements from the fitter or supervisor you work with.

You don't sit in a classroom for this one. Enrol and pay online, and we register you and assign your assessor, who tells you exactly what to collect. Expect it to take typically 6 to 8 weeks if you keep the evidence coming.

The certificate doesn't expire. If you're using it for a CSCS card, check the card finder on the CSCS website for your occupation first: CSCS also asks for the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the right level, passed within the last two years.

Who it's for

Pipefitters' mates and installation operatives working on pipework in construction, who want a Level 2 qualification for the work they already do.

What you'll learn

  • Working safely: health, safety and welfare on site
  • Productive working practices: drawings, specifications and programmes
  • Handling, storing and preparing pipework components
  • Supporting the safe installation of pipework

I'm a self-employed pipework installer. Can I still do it?

Yes, as long as you're working in the trade and can show evidence from real jobs. Witness statements can come from someone who has seen your work, such as the site supervisor or the contractor you're working for. Your assessor will tell you what's acceptable before you start collecting.

How long does the Level 2 Diploma in pipework installation support take?

Typically 6 to 8 weeks. The biggest factor is how quickly you gather the evidence: if you're working as a pipework installer every day and send photos and statements as you go, it moves quickly.

Do I have to come to your Rotherham venue?

No. An NVQ is assessed on the work you do, so there are no course dates or classroom sessions. Our venue at Bradmarsh Business Park in Rotherham is used for CITB classroom courses such as SSSTS and SMSTS; for the Level 2 Diploma in pipework installation support the evidence comes from your own jobs.
