About the course

This is the Dry Lining Finishing pathway of the Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Interior Systems. It's for dry lining finishers whose day-to-day work is taping, jointing and finishing plasterboard, on offices, flats, schools and other fit-out jobs, and it proves you do it safely and to specification.

Your evidence comes from the jobs you're already on, whether that's in Sheffield, Rotherham or further afield. Typical evidence: photos of boards you've taped, jointed and finished ready for decoration, the specifications you worked to, and statements from your supervisor.

You don't sit in a classroom for this one. Enrol and pay online, and we register you and assign your assessor, who tells you exactly what to collect. Expect it to take typically 6 to 8 weeks if you keep the evidence coming.

Once you've achieved it, you can apply for the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker card, which is valid for five years. CSCS also asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years.

Is the Dry Lining Finishing pathway the right one for me?

Choose it if most of your work is taping, jointing and finishing plasterboard. The same qualification also comes in Ceiling Fixing, Dry Lining Boarder and Cavity Barrier Installation pathways, each with its own page. If your work spans more than one, ask us before you enrol and we'll check the pathway against what you actually do.

Can I get a CSCS card while I'm still working towards the Level 2 NVQ in Interior Systems (Dry Lining Finishing)?

Usually, yes. If you've worked as a dry lining finisher for at least a year in the last three and you're registered on the NVQ, CSCS offers an Experienced Worker card. It lasts one year and can't be renewed, so the idea is to finish the NVQ in that time and then apply for the Blue Skilled Worker card. You'll need the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the right level either way.

How long does the Level 2 NVQ in Interior Systems (Dry Lining Finishing) take?

Typically 6 to 8 weeks. The biggest factor is how quickly you gather the evidence: if you're working as a dry lining finisher every day and send photos and statements as you go, it moves quickly.
