About the course

The Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Wall and Floor Tiling is for tilers who prepare backgrounds and fix wall and floor tiles in homes, commercial buildings and new-build developments.

Your evidence comes from the jobs you're already on, whether that's in Sheffield, Rotherham or further afield. Typical evidence: photos of backgrounds you've prepared and tiling you've set out, fixed and grouted, the specifications you worked to, and statements from your supervisor or the main contractor.

There are no course dates and nothing to attend. You enrol and pay in full online, we register you, and your assessor plans with you what evidence you need. It typically takes 6 to 8 weeks, depending on how quickly the evidence comes together.

Once you've achieved it, you can apply for the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker card, which is valid for five years. CSCS also asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years.

For complex and specialist tiling, the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wall and Floor Tiling leads to the Gold CSCS card.

Can I get a CSCS card while I'm still working towards the Level 2 NVQ in Wall and Floor Tiling?

Usually, yes. If you've worked as a tiler for at least a year in the last three and you're registered on the NVQ, CSCS offers an Experienced Worker card. It lasts one year and can't be renewed, so the idea is to finish the NVQ in that time and then apply for the Blue Skilled Worker card. You'll need the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the right level either way.

How long does the Level 2 NVQ in Wall and Floor Tiling take?

Typically 6 to 8 weeks. The biggest factor is how quickly you gather the evidence: if you're working as a tiler every day and send photos and statements as you go, it moves quickly.

Do I have to come to your Rotherham venue?

No. An NVQ is assessed on the work you do, so there are no course dates or classroom sessions. Our venue at Bradmarsh Business Park in Rotherham is used for CITB classroom courses such as SSSTS and SMSTS; for the Level 2 NVQ in Wall and Floor Tiling the evidence comes from your own jobs.
