About the course

This is Pathway 4, Structural Concreting, of the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Construction and Civil Engineering Operations. It's for structural concretors whose work is mainly placing and compacting concrete in structural work, on building and civil engineering sites, and it proves you do it safely and to specification.

Your evidence comes from the sites you work on, anywhere from Barnsley to Worksop. Typical evidence: photos of concrete you've placed and compacted in walls, columns, slabs and civils structures, the pour records and drawings you worked to, and statements from your supervisor.

There are no course dates and nothing to attend. You enrol and pay in full online, we register you, and your assessor plans with you what evidence you need. It typically takes 6 to 8 weeks, depending on how quickly the evidence comes together.

Once you've achieved it, you can apply for the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker card, which is valid for five years. CSCS also asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years.

Is the Structural Concreting pathway the right one for me?

Choose it if most of your work is placing and compacting concrete in structural work. The same qualification also comes in Concreting, General Construction and Drainage Construction pathways, each with its own page. If your work spans more than one, ask us before you enrol and we'll check the pathway against what you actually do.

Can I get a CSCS card while I'm still working towards the Level 2 NVQ in Construction and Civil Engineering (Structural Concreting)?

Usually, yes. If you've worked as a structural concretor for at least a year in the last three and you're registered on the NVQ, CSCS offers an Experienced Worker card. It lasts one year and can't be renewed, so the idea is to finish the NVQ in that time and then apply for the Blue Skilled Worker card. You'll need the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the right level either way.

Do I have to come to your Rotherham venue?

No. An NVQ is assessed on the work you do, so there are no course dates or classroom sessions. Our venue at Bradmarsh Business Park in Rotherham is used for CITB classroom courses such as SSSTS and SMSTS; for the Level 2 NVQ in Construction and Civil Engineering (Structural Concreting) the evidence comes from your own jobs.
