About the course

This is the Diploma in Interior Systems with the Dry Lining Fixing pathway. It's broader than the Certificate's boarder pathway: it suits fixers who set out and build metal stud partitions, wall linings and ceilings as well as boarding them.

Your evidence comes from real jobs on your own sites around Sheffield and Rotherham. Typical evidence: photos of partitions and linings at framing and boarding stages, the drawings and system specifications you worked from, and statements from your supervisor. Fit-outs like the offices and flats at Sheffield's West Bar scheme are the kind of work that fits.

It doesn't take you off site. Once you've enrolled and paid online, we register you and an assessor guides you through the portfolio. Most of the time goes on collecting evidence; the whole NVQ typically takes 6 to 8 weeks.

Once you've achieved it, you can apply for the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker card, which is valid for five years. CSCS also asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years.

Who it's for

Dry lining fixers who frame and board partitions, linings and ceilings and need a Level 2 NVQ for a Blue CSCS card. If you only board, the Certificate's Dry Lining Boarder pathway may suit you better.

What you'll learn

  • Working safely: health, safety and welfare on site
  • Productive working practices: drawings, specifications and programmes
  • Setting out partitions and linings
  • Installing metal stud and framing systems
  • Fixing plasterboard to framed systems

Can I get a CSCS card while I'm still working towards the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems?

Usually, yes. If you've worked as a dry lining fixer for at least a year in the last three and you're registered on the NVQ, CSCS offers an Experienced Worker card. It lasts one year and can't be renewed, so the idea is to finish the NVQ in that time and then apply for the Blue Skilled Worker card. You'll need the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the right level either way.

What's the difference between this and the Dry Lining Boarder NVQ?

This is the Diploma, with the Dry Lining Fixing pathway, so it covers setting out and building the metal framing as well as boarding. The Dry Lining Boarder pathway sits in the Level 2 Certificate and is about fixing the boards. Pick the one that matches what you actually do on site.

How long does the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems take?

Typically 6 to 8 weeks. The biggest factor is how quickly you gather the evidence: if you're working as a dry lining fixer every day and send photos and statements as you go, it moves quickly.
