About the course

This is the Fibrous pathway of the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plastering. It's for fibrous plasterers whose work is making and fixing fibrous plaster work, on new-build, refurbishment or restoration jobs, and it proves you do it to a recognised standard.

Your evidence comes from the work you're doing now, from Doncaster and Barnsley to Chesterfield. Typical evidence: photos of fibrous mouldings, cornices and features you've run, cast and fixed, the drawings and templates you worked from, and statements from your supervisor.

There are no course dates and nothing to attend. You enrol and pay in full online, we register you, and your assessor plans with you what evidence you need. It typically takes 6 to 8 weeks, depending on how quickly the evidence comes together.

Once you've achieved it, you can apply for the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker card, which is valid for five years. CSCS also asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years.

Is the Fibrous pathway the right one for me?

Choose it if most of your work is making and fixing fibrous plaster work. The same qualification also comes in Solid pathways, each with its own page. If your work spans more than one, ask us before you enrol and we'll check the pathway against what you actually do.

Can I get a CSCS card while I'm still working towards the Level 2 NVQ in Plastering (Fibrous)?

Usually, yes. If you've worked as a fibrous plasterer for at least a year in the last three and you're registered on the NVQ, CSCS offers an Experienced Worker card. It lasts one year and can't be renewed, so the idea is to finish the NVQ in that time and then apply for the Blue Skilled Worker card. You'll need the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the right level either way.

I'm a self-employed fibrous plasterer. Can I still do it?

Yes, as long as you're working in the trade and can show evidence from real jobs. Witness statements can come from someone who has seen your work, such as the site supervisor or the contractor you're working for. Your assessor will tell you what's acceptable before you start collecting.
