The Roof Tiler pathway of the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations, for experienced roof tilers who need a Blue CSCS card. Assessed on your own roofs.
This is the Roof Tiler pathway of the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations. It's for roof tilers whose work is laying and fixing roof tiles, on new-build and re-roofing jobs, and it proves you work safely at height and to the specification.
Your evidence comes from the sites you work on, anywhere from Barnsley to Worksop. Typical evidence: photos of roofs you've felted, battened and tiled, including verges, valleys and ridges, the fixing specifications you worked to, and statements from your supervisor.
You don't sit in a classroom for this one. Enrol and pay online, and we register you and assign your assessor, who tells you exactly what to collect. Expect it to take typically 6 to 8 weeks if you keep the evidence coming.
Once you've achieved it, you can apply for the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker card, which is valid for five years. CSCS also asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years.
Experienced roof tilers working on roofs now who need a Level 2 NVQ for the Blue CSCS card.
An NVQ has no course dates. You prove you're competent with evidence from the work you already do, with an assessor guiding you from start to finish.
Enrol and pay online. We register you for the qualification.
You're assigned an assessor who plans your NVQ with you and guides you through it.
Gather evidence from the work you already do: documents, photos, reports and witness statements.
Your assessor reviews your evidence and confirms you meet each standard of the qualification.
Once you're signed off you receive your certificate and can apply for the CSCS card that goes with it.
An NVQ has no venue to travel to. It's assessed on the work you already do, so it suits site teams anywhere in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, North Derbyshire and beyond, with no time off site.

Choose it if most of your work is laying and fixing roof tiles. The same qualification also comes in Roof Slater and Tiler and Fully Supported Lead and Hard Metal Roofer and Cladder pathways, each with its own page. If your work spans more than one, ask us before you enrol and we'll check the pathway against what you actually do.
Usually, yes. If you've worked as a roof tiler for at least a year in the last three and you're registered on the NVQ, CSCS offers an Experienced Worker card. It lasts one year and can't be renewed, so the idea is to finish the NVQ in that time and then apply for the Blue Skilled Worker card. You'll need the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the right level either way.
No. An NVQ is assessed on the work you do, so there are no course dates or classroom sessions. Our venue at Bradmarsh Business Park in Rotherham is used for CITB classroom courses such as SSSTS and SMSTS; for the Level 2 NVQ in Roofing (Roof Tiler) the evidence comes from your own jobs.
