About the course

This is the Timber Frame Erection pathway of the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations. It's for timber frame erectors whose work is erecting timber frame panels and structures, on housing, commercial and refurbishment jobs, and it proves you do it safely and to the drawings.

Your evidence comes from the sites you work on, anywhere from Barnsley to Worksop. Typical evidence: photos of timber frame panels, floors and roof structures you've erected, the frame drawings and fixing schedules you worked to, and statements from your supervisor.

There are no course dates and nothing to attend. You enrol and pay in full online, we register you, and your assessor plans with you what evidence you need. It typically takes 6 to 8 weeks, depending on how quickly the evidence comes together.

Once you've achieved it, you can apply for the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker card, which is valid for five years. CSCS also asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years.

Is the Timber Frame Erection pathway the right one for me?

Choose it if most of your work is erecting timber frame panels and structures. The same qualification also comes in Site Carpentry pathways, each with its own page. If your work spans more than one, ask us before you enrol and we'll check the pathway against what you actually do.

Can I get a CSCS card while I'm still working towards the Level 2 NVQ in Wood Occupations (Timber Frame Erection)?

Usually, yes. If you've worked as a timber frame erector for at least a year in the last three and you're registered on the NVQ, CSCS offers an Experienced Worker card. It lasts one year and can't be renewed, so the idea is to finish the NVQ in that time and then apply for the Blue Skilled Worker card. You'll need the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the right level either way.

Do I have to come to your Rotherham venue?

No. An NVQ is assessed on the work you do, so there are no course dates or classroom sessions. Our venue at Bradmarsh Business Park in Rotherham is used for CITB classroom courses such as SSSTS and SMSTS; for the Level 2 NVQ in Wood Occupations (Timber Frame Erection) the evidence comes from your own jobs.
