About the course
The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment is the assessor qualification for people who assess candidates in their real workplace, such as NVQ candidates on a construction site.
It suits experienced tradespeople, supervisors and managers who want to assess NVQs in their own occupation, or who assess competence for their employer. To assess an NVQ you also need to be occupationally competent in the area you assess.
You're assessed on real assessments you carry out: planning with candidates, observing them at work, judging evidence, giving feedback and keeping records. If you'll also assess in training settings such as a workshop or classroom, look at the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement.

How NVQs work
An NVQ has no course dates. You prove you're competent with evidence from the work you already do, with an assessor guiding you from start to finish.

Once you're signed off you receive your certificate and can apply for the CSCS card that goes with it.

Award or Certificate: which assessor qualification do I need?
The Award covers assessing people in their real workplace only. The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement also covers assessing in training settings such as a workshop or classroom. If you'll only assess on site, the Award is usually enough.
Can I assess NVQs straight away once I've passed?
You also need to be occupationally competent in the area you assess, and the centre you assess for will have its own requirements, so check with them.
Do I need candidates to assess?
Yes. You're assessed on real assessments you carry out, so you need access to candidates working towards a qualification.
