About the course

This is the Surveying pathway (Pathway 4) of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations. It's for assistant quantity surveyors, trainee QSs and surveying technicians working for contractors, subcontractors or consultants.

Your evidence comes from your surveying work: measuring completed work, preparing interim valuations and applications for payment, dealing with variations, recording costs, and helping with final accounts and cost reports.

There's no classroom and no exam. You build your portfolio from the measurements, valuations and reports you already produce, and your assessor holds a recorded professional discussion with you.

As a Level 3 technical NVQ it supports an application for the CSCS Gold Supervisor card, which QSs often need on site. When you're working at senior level, the Level 6 NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations Management is the usual next step towards the Black Manager card.

Something else? Call 07939 593032.

Is the Surveying pathway right for a trainee QS?

Yes, if your work is measuring and valuing construction work, preparing valuations and dealing with variations. If you mainly price work before it's won, the Estimating pathway fits better.

Which CSCS card does it lead to?

CSCS accepts construction supervisory and technical NVQs at Level 3 or 4 for the Gold Supervisor card. With the NVQ and a pass in the right CITB Health, Safety and Environment test taken within the last two years, you can apply. CSCS's card finder confirms the card and test for your occupation.

Why are there several versions of this NVQ?

The Construction Contracting Operations NVQ has pathways for different technical roles. We offer Estimating, Surveying, Site Technical Support and General. Pick the one that matches the job you do now, because your evidence has to come from it.

What comes after it?

Once you're working at a senior or managing level, the Level 6 NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations Management leads to the Black Manager card.
