About the course

This is the Site Technical Support pathway (Pathway 5) of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations. It's for people who provide technical support on site: assistant site engineers, setting-out engineers, site technicians and technical coordinators.

Your evidence comes from your site work: setting out and checking levels and positions, collecting and passing on technical information, checking work against drawings, keeping site records and helping to resolve technical problems with the site team and designers.

It's assessed on your own site, so there's no classroom to attend. Your assessor observes your work on site or by video, alongside your portfolio and a recorded professional discussion.

As a Level 3 technical NVQ it supports an application for the CSCS Gold Supervisor card. People who move into running sites often go on to the Level 4 Site Supervision or Level 6 Site Management NVQ.

Who it's for

What you'll learn

  • Setting out and checking dimensions and levels

  • Keeping site technical records
  • Helping to resolve technical problems on site

Yes, for assistant and setting-out engineers and site technicians whose job is setting out, checking work and handling technical information on site.

Which CSCS card does it lead to?

CSCS accepts construction supervisory and technical NVQs at Level 3 or 4 for the Gold Supervisor card. With the NVQ and a pass in the right CITB Health, Safety and Environment test taken within the last two years, you can apply. CSCS's card finder confirms the card and test for your occupation.
