About the course

This is the General pathway (Pathway 7) of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations. It's for people in construction technical and coordination roles that don't sit neatly in estimating, surveying or site engineering: assistant planners, buyers, technical coordinators, document controllers and site administrators with technical duties.

Your evidence comes from the mix of work you do: collecting and organising technical and project information, coordinating with the site team, suppliers and subcontractors, contributing to programmes, procurement or records, and supporting health, safety and quality procedures.

There's no classroom. You build your portfolio from your own work and your assessor holds a recorded professional discussion with you, with observation where it fits your role.

As a Level 3 technical NVQ it supports an application for the CSCS Gold Supervisor card. If your job is mainly one specialism, the Estimating, Surveying or Site Technical Support pathway may fit better.

Who it's for

Assistant planners, buyers, technical coordinators and other construction technical staff whose role mixes several kinds of work.

What you'll learn

  • Collecting and organising project information
  • Coordinating with site teams, suppliers and subcontractors

How NVQs work

An NVQ has no course dates. You prove you're competent with evidence from the work you already do, with an assessor guiding you from start to finish.

When should I choose the General pathway?

When your job mixes several technical or coordination tasks, such as planning support, buying and technical records, rather than being mainly estimating, surveying or site engineering.

Which CSCS card does it lead to?

CSCS accepts construction supervisory and technical NVQs at Level 3 or 4 for the Gold Supervisor card. With the NVQ and a pass in the right CITB Health, Safety and Environment test taken within the last two years, you can apply. CSCS's card finder confirms the card and test for your occupation.

Why are there several versions of this NVQ?

The Construction Contracting Operations NVQ has pathways for different technical roles. We offer Estimating, Surveying, Site Technical Support and General. Pick the one that matches the job you do now, because your evidence has to come from it.
