About the course

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Heritage Skills: Roof Slating and Tiling is for craftspeople whose work is slating and tiling historic and traditional roofs. It shows you can repair and conserve older buildings using traditional materials and methods, respecting what's already there.

Your evidence comes from the jobs you're already on, whether that's in Sheffield, Rotherham or further afield. Typical evidence: photos of traditional slating and tiling you've done on older buildings, how you salvaged and matched materials, the conservation specifications you worked to, and statements from your supervisor.

There are no course dates and nothing to attend. You enrol and pay in full online, we register you, and your assessor plans with you what evidence you need. It typically takes 6 to 8 weeks, depending on how quickly the evidence comes together.

A construction-related Level 3 NVQ is what CSCS asks for before it issues the Gold Skilled Worker card. You'll also need to have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years. The Gold card is valid for five years.
