About the course

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Insulation and Building Treatments is for experienced installers working at advanced level: interpreting designs, handling complex details, checking quality and leading the work on site.

Your evidence comes from your current sites across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. Typical evidence: photos of complex installs and details, the designs and specifications you interpreted, quality checks and handover records, and statements from your manager.

It doesn't take you off site. Once you've enrolled and paid online, we register you and an assessor guides you through the portfolio. Most of the time goes on collecting evidence; the whole NVQ typically takes 6 to 8 weeks.

A construction-related Level 3 NVQ is what CSCS asks for before it issues the Gold Skilled Worker card. You'll also need to have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years. The Gold card is valid for five years.

What else do I need for a Gold CSCS card as a insulation installer?

Besides the Level 3 NVQ, CSCS asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test within the last two years, at the level set for your occupation. Use the card finder on the CSCS website to check the test level for insulation installers. The Gold Skilled Worker card is valid for five years.

Do I have to come to your Rotherham venue?

No. An NVQ is assessed on the work you do, so there are no course dates or classroom sessions. Our venue at Bradmarsh Business Park in Rotherham is used for CITB classroom courses such as SSSTS and SMSTS; for the Level 3 NVQ in Insulation and Building Treatments the evidence comes from your own jobs.

I'm a self-employed insulation installer. Can I still do it?

Yes, as long as you're working in the trade and can show evidence from real jobs. Witness statements can come from someone who has seen your work, such as the site supervisor or the contractor you're working for. Your assessor will tell you what's acceptable before you start collecting.
