The Roof Tiler pathway of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations, for experienced roof tilers doing complex tiling. Assessed on your own roofs, for the Gold CSCS card.
This is the Roof Tiler pathway of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations. It's for roof tilers working at advanced craft level: setting out complex roofs in tiles, forming difficult details and taking responsibility for the finished roof.
Your evidence comes from your day-to-day work, on sites in Sheffield, Doncaster or anywhere else. Typical evidence: photos of complex roofs you've set out and finished in tiles, including hips, valleys, dormers and abutments, the specifications you worked to, and statements from your supervisor or contracts manager.
It doesn't take you off site. Once you've enrolled and paid online, we register you and an assessor guides you through the portfolio. Most of the time goes on collecting evidence; the whole NVQ typically takes 6 to 8 weeks.
A construction-related Level 3 NVQ is what CSCS asks for before it issues the Gold Skilled Worker card. You'll also need to have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years. The Gold card is valid for five years.

You're assigned an assessor who plans your NVQ with you and guides you through it.
Gather evidence from the work you already do: documents, photos, reports and witness statements.
Your assessor reviews your evidence and confirms you meet each standard of the qualification.
Once you're signed off you receive your certificate and can apply for the CSCS card that goes with it.

Choose it if most of your work is complex tiling. The same qualification also comes in Roof Slater and Roof Slater and Tiler pathways, each with its own page. If your work spans more than one, ask us before you enrol and we'll check the pathway against what you actually do.
Besides the Level 3 NVQ, CSCS asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test within the last two years, at the level set for your occupation. Use the card finder on the CSCS website to check the test level for roof tilers. The Gold Skilled Worker card is valid for five years.
Yes, as long as you're working in the trade and can show evidence from real jobs. Witness statements can come from someone who has seen your work, such as the site supervisor or the contractor you're working for. Your assessor will tell you what's acceptable before you start collecting.
