The Roof Slater pathway of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations, for experienced roof slaters doing complex slating. Assessed on your own roofs, for the Gold CSCS card.
This is the Roof Slater pathway of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations. It's for roof slaters working at advanced craft level: setting out complex roofs in slates, forming difficult details and taking responsibility for the finished roof.
Your evidence comes from real jobs on your own sites around Sheffield and Rotherham. Typical evidence: photos of complex roofs you've set out and finished in slates, including hips, valleys, dormers and abutments, the specifications you worked to, and statements from your supervisor or contracts manager.
An NVQ has no dates to book. You pay in full online, we register you, and your assessor agrees an evidence plan with you and reviews it as you go. Typically it takes 6 to 8 weeks from start to finish.
A construction-related Level 3 NVQ is what CSCS asks for before it issues the Gold Skilled Worker card. You'll also need to have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years. The Gold card is valid for five years.

You're assigned an assessor who plans your NVQ with you and guides you through it.
Gather evidence from the work you already do: documents, photos, reports and witness statements.
Your assessor reviews your evidence and confirms you meet each standard of the qualification.
Once you're signed off you receive your certificate and can apply for the CSCS card that goes with it.
An NVQ has no venue to travel to. It's assessed on the work you already do, so it suits site teams anywhere in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, North Derbyshire and beyond, with no time off site.

Choose it if most of your work is complex slating. The same qualification also comes in Roof Slater and Tiler and Roof Tiler pathways, each with its own page. If your work spans more than one, ask us before you enrol and we'll check the pathway against what you actually do.
Besides the Level 3 NVQ, CSCS asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test within the last two years, at the level set for your occupation. Use the card finder on the CSCS website to check the test level for roof slaters. The Gold Skilled Worker card is valid for five years.
Typically 6 to 8 weeks. The biggest factor is how quickly you gather the evidence: if you're working as a roof slater every day and send photos and statements as you go, it moves quickly.
