About the course

This is the Service Operable Partition Walls pathway of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems. It's for experienced installers who install, maintain and repair operable (moveable) partition walls in places like conference suites, schools and hotels.

Your evidence comes from your day-to-day work, on sites in Sheffield, Doncaster or anywhere else. Typical evidence: photos and service records of partitions you've installed, adjusted and repaired, the manufacturer's procedures and drawings you followed, and statements from your supervisor or client.

It doesn't take you off site. Once you've enrolled and paid online, we register you and an assessor guides you through the portfolio. Most of the time goes on collecting evidence; the whole NVQ typically takes 6 to 8 weeks.

A construction-related Level 3 NVQ is what CSCS asks for before it issues the Gold Skilled Worker card. You'll also need to have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years. The Gold card is valid for five years.

What else do I need for a Gold CSCS card as a operable partition installer?

Besides the Level 3 NVQ, CSCS asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test within the last two years, at the level set for your occupation. Use the card finder on the CSCS website to check the test level for operable partition installers. The Gold Skilled Worker card is valid for five years.

I'm a self-employed operable partition installer. Can I still do it?

Yes, as long as you're working in the trade and can show evidence from real jobs. Witness statements can come from someone who has seen your work, such as the site supervisor or the contractor you're working for. Your assessor will tell you what's acceptable before you start collecting.

How long does the Level 3 NVQ in Interior Systems take?

Typically 6 to 8 weeks. The biggest factor is how quickly you gather the evidence: if you're working as a operable partition installer every day and send photos and statements as you go, it moves quickly.
