The Site Carpentry pathway of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations, for experienced site carpenters who need a Gold CSCS card. Assessed on your own work.
This is the Site Carpentry pathway of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations. It's for site carpenters whose work is complex site carpentry: roofs, stairs, complex second fix and setting out, and it recognises the advanced craft level that a Gold CSCS card stands for.
Your evidence comes from the jobs you're already on, whether that's in Sheffield, Rotherham or further afield. Typical evidence: photos of cut roofs, stairs and complex second fix you've set out and installed, the drawings you worked from, and statements from your site manager or supervisor.
You don't sit in a classroom for this one. Enrol and pay online, and we register you and assign your assessor, who tells you exactly what to collect. Expect it to take typically 6 to 8 weeks if you keep the evidence coming.
A construction-related Level 3 NVQ is what CSCS asks for before it issues the Gold Skilled Worker card. You'll also need to have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation within the last two years. The Gold card is valid for five years.
If you're already running a team, the usual next steps are the Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision and CITB's SSSTS, which runs in our Rotherham classroom and live online.
Experienced site carpenters working at an advanced level who need a Level 3 NVQ for the Gold CSCS card.
An NVQ has no course dates. You prove you're competent with evidence from the work you already do, with an assessor guiding you from start to finish.
Enrol and pay online. We register you for the qualification.
You're assigned an assessor who plans your NVQ with you and guides you through it.
Gather evidence from the work you already do: documents, photos, reports and witness statements.
Your assessor reviews your evidence and confirms you meet each standard of the qualification.
Once you're signed off you receive your certificate and can apply for the CSCS card that goes with it.
An NVQ has no venue to travel to. It's assessed on the work you already do, so it suits site teams anywhere in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, North Derbyshire and beyond, with no time off site.

Choose it if most of your work is complex site carpentry: roofs, stairs, complex second fix and setting out. The same qualification also comes in Architectural Joinery pathways, each with its own page. If your work spans more than one, ask us before you enrol and we'll check the pathway against what you actually do.
Besides the Level 3 NVQ, CSCS asks that you've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test within the last two years, at the level set for your occupation. Use the card finder on the CSCS website to check the test level for site carpenters. The Gold Skilled Worker card is valid for five years.
Typically 6 to 8 weeks. The biggest factor is how quickly you gather the evidence: if you're working as a site carpenter every day and send photos and statements as you go, it moves quickly.
