About the course

The Level 4 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment is for people who carry out, or are responsible for, fire risk assessments: facilities and estates managers, health and safety advisers, building managers and fire risk assessors.

In England and Wales, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person for most non-domestic premises to make sure a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment is carried out. This qualification shows you have the competence to do that work.

It's assessed on your own work, with no classroom days, so it suits people already assessing premises across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. Your assessor explains exactly what evidence you'll need when you enrol.

Who it's for

Facilities and estates managers, building managers, health and safety advisers and fire risk assessors who carry out fire risk assessments.

How NVQs work

An NVQ has no course dates. You prove you're competent with evidence from the work you already do, with an assessor guiding you from start to finish.

  1. 1

    Register

Enrol and pay online. We register you for the qualification.

  2. 2

    Meet your assessor

You're assigned an assessor who plans your NVQ with you and guides you through it.

  3. 3

    Build your portfolio

Gather evidence from the work you already do: documents, photos, reports and witness statements.

  4. 4

    Assessment

Your assessor reviews your evidence and confirms you meet each standard of the qualification.

  5. 5

    Certificate and CSCS card

Once you're signed off you receive your certificate and can apply for the CSCS card that goes with it.

Do I need to be carrying out fire risk assessments already?

It's assessed on your own work, so you need a role where you carry out or contribute to fire risk assessments. If you're not sure your role fits, call us before you enrol.

Is this a CSCS card qualification?

No. It's a fire safety qualification rather than a construction occupation NVQ, so it isn't linked to a CSCS card level.
